Engine Cowl Flaps, Mounts and Segments (fixed cowls)
Mentioned earlier, an important find was the engine data plates with the serial number of the engine for comparison with the MACR document positively identifying the wreck. Another firm and positive method for positive identification is finding one of the engine cover segments, also called fixed cowls. Inside the segment is stenciled the aircraft serial number and other information pertaining to what engine the cover came from, and part number of the segment. Several engine segments were found at the site, some of them exhibit shrapnel damage ranging from slightly to significant. It is also noted, the recovered engine segments represent all engines, except those from number two. No nose, or " anitdrag ring" compartments were recovered, yet.

The fasteners that close the segments to the aircraft frame. They are called Dzus fasteners, named after their inventor William Dzus, a Ukrainian immigrant.
This Segment displays the serial number of the aircraft, 43-38911
